Results:

The St George Development weekend was held on the 12th and 13th of June at Buckinbah Weir. 23 new local skiers came from Roma and locally, 11 AWWF members and Paul the chief boat driver and advisor.
Waterski Qld would like to thank the Beck Family from Reliance fuel for their sponsorship of the weekend. Their generosity was amazing - the boat was fuelled for the whole weekend by Reliance, a toilet was supplied, their own personal boat was used for trick coaching, they also supplied enough coolers and hats for all skiers plus encouragement awards, they supplied and erected the marquee and on top of all that they also donated $500 to Waterski Qld. With support like this tournament waterskiing in the St George area will grow and be around for many years to come. THANK YOU Darryl and Dana.

A big thankyou also goes to Lou and Ricky Ferguson, without them the weekend would not have happened. Lou had everything organised and we only had to oversee the final touches. Lou and Rick donated their boat for slalom and some trick coaching. Another successful weekend behind a wonderful Malibu LXI.
Dean and Macca were the main coaches for the weekend, everyone was grateful for their tips and support. The improvement in skiing from the first round on Saturday morning to the last round on Sunday afternoon was fantastic. Well done boys.

The water temperature left a bit to be desired, those lucky enough to have a dry suit or a borrowed one from the Ferguson family were very appreciative. Poor Lou and Dana spent a lot of time dragging people in and out of dry suits. Feet were numb after 30 seconds in the water.

The site was picture perfect with no water traffic to worry about. I think the Ferguson’s secret ski site may be a bit more popular than they had hoped. The wind came up at times but the water remained calm.
The format for the weekend was two rounds of four passes with coaching on the Saturday and two rounds of Tournament on the Sunday. Muscles on Sunday were not as fresh as people expected. New skiers did not realise how much effort was required although everyone was keen to continue.

Fletcher Ferguson ran the full course for the first time on the Saturday with lots of cheering from the crowd on his double skis. Ben Griffith (Brendan’s son) had his first taste of a slalom course and we think we will be seeing Brendan with some extras. Brandon Lee from St George was the winner of the tournament held on Sunday with a total score for Div 6 of 54.1 out of a possible 56 which was a fair effort for his first go on a slalom course.

The top three were awarded medallions supplied by Mick Campbell and they were also given Waterski Qld shirts, hats and coolers. Every skier received a hat and cooler donated by The Beck Family.
Encouragement awards were given to Jayden Walker and Brooke Bennett, they listened to the coaches and applied everything they were told. Fantastic effort.
Division 4 was hotly contested with THE QUEEN Lou Ferguson walking away with 1st place after a lot of sledging and abuse by husband Ricky and mate Brendon. Rick & Brendon ended the weekend as losers and therefore had to pack up camp. Well done boys.

This was a great weekend and fun was had by all. We are hoping to encourage St George to come on board as a future tournament site. The locals were fantastic and we were made to feel very welcome. Thank you St George.
